Gorgeous Hair Ideas for Holiday Party Season

29 Oct 2016 Posted by trubridal in Wedding Hair

The perfect party dress, the sexy heel, the red lip. An entrance-making holiday look involves a few moving parts. Here is a little inspiration for your mane–whether you bring to your stylist (or try on your own, you brave soul, you).

Use a clip-less curling wand to frame loose waves around your face. (And keep curls crease-free while doing your makeup with our handy little trick.)

Pull back one side with a horizontal French braid to showcase your smoky eye.

Make your pony a conversation starter by teasing, curling and adding about a half a can of hairspray.

For a more traditional updo, take this pic to your local stylist. They’ll be able to braid around your ballerina bun.

RELATED: Ombre Is Out; Hand-Pressed Hair Color Is In

Looking for a little something easier you can do at home? Enter the teased bun and the double headband.

Even more pressed for time? Middle-part + low bun + jeweled headband = revelry ready.

That trendy half-bun you’ve been eying? Now’s your time to shine.

But if you’re not ready to fully commit just yet, try a half-bun back on the crown of your head.

Chunky side braids are dreamy wherever you are. (But a Parisian backdrop never hurts.)

A Scandinavian-inspired crown never gets old.

Nor does a sophisticated low bun.

No matter your age, a satin ribbon is basically instant holiday cheer.

For a more mature look, use a vintage-inspired clip in a low twist.

Really, any sprig from the garden. (“This is mistletoe? I had no idea!”)

This is another one of those styles you could perfect by watching hours of YouTube…or by just asking your stylist.

Go ’80s glam–in the very best way.

For a little more height, tease the front section into a bouffant and set with hairspray.

Disguise any elastic with a small braid.

Fishtails aren’t just for side braids.

Hey, curly ladies. Twist sections of hair in a somewhat haphazard way and secure with bobby pins. The result is surprisingly chic.

13 Ideas For Throwing The Most Fun Wedding–Ever!

13 Ideas For Throwing The Most Fun Wedding--Ever!
Weddings are beautiful, traditional and classy affairs, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be fun! They are parties after all. While we know you want to have an event that will bring your grandmother to tears, make your parents proud and entertain all age groups, you should also incorporate some creative, out-of-the-box details that will make your wedding more fun than any other.

Need some ideas? Click through the slideshow for our best tips and tricks to ensure your big day is an unforgettable blast.

A great playlist. The key to a great wedding? Great music. It is one of the few things guests will remember long after their monogrammed cocktail napkins have been tossed. Need some help fine-tuning your playlist? Check out Time Out’s Top 100 Epic Party Songs. Sit down with your band or DJ and ensure they understand the vibe you are looking for (i.e. everyone jumping up and down belting out Katy Perry lyrics). [Photo Credit: Shutterstock] A great playlist

Photo Booth

A photo booth. This is hands-down the most popular rental at weddings right now. Why? Guests get super silly with props like mustaches behind that cloth window (pics your photographer can’t capture). Plus, it is a perfect memento for your guests to take home. [Photo Credit: Cathy David Photography] A photo booth

Flip Flops For Dancing

Baskets of flip flops. Want to get your guests jumping up and down? Provide comfortable dancing shoes so they can kick off their uncomfortable shoes and let loose! It’s a subtle way to encourage raging dance parties. Plus, a great goody for your friends to take home! [Photo Credit: Etsy] Flip Flops For Dancing

Party Favors

Party favors guests actually want. We have seen some pretty creative party favor ideas so don’t be afraid to get have fun with this. Lotto tickets are a really fun way to potentially give someone the gift of insane money or homemade jams for a yummy treat. Favors that relate to the place or venue are great ways to keep the memories alive. Everyone loves a good treat! [Photo Credit: Red Ribbon Studio] Party favors guests actually want.

Games at the wedding. No, we are not talking about board games, but the kind that will break the ice at the table and have your friends giggling with fun adjectives. Place Wedding Mad Libs at each place setting and watch what happens. Other gems we have seen are Wedding I Spy and Jenga guest books. Who knows? Your grandma might just have some hilarious adjectives for your _____ wedding! [Photo Credit: Etsy] Games at the wedding.

Koozie Set

Personalized koozies. Nothing says married quite like Mr. and Mrs. Koozies. Hand these out during cocktail hour, especially for outdoor venues or summer weddings. You can make them just for the bride and groom or for everyone! They’re so adorable you’ll carry them long after the wedding day. [Photo Credit: Etsy] Personalized koozies.

Custom Sunglasses

Personalized sunglasses for the dance floor. You want to know the secret to getting everyone on the dance floor busting out their best moves? Sunglasses. Seriously, a little shade and all that shyness disappears. Customize them with your initials and/or wedding date and they double as a great party favor! Even your great Aunt Ethel will want in on this fun. [Photo Credit: Etsy] Personalized sunglasses for the dance floor.

Smoke Machine

Smoke machine! We are here to tell you that it is totally acceptable to have a smoke machine at your wedding. In fact, we encourage it. A smoke machine will instantly change the vibe of your wedding from chatting and cocktails to epic dance party. And just like the sunglasses, even the worst dancers feel okay about busting a move under the guise of smoke and lights. [Photo Credit: Cathy David Photography] Smoke machine!

Candy Bar

A candy bar. Deep down, we are all a bunch of kids and everyone loves a good candy bar. Whether you set up goody bags and have guests fill up on their way out or keep it open (and fully stocked) for the whole night (dancers looking for a break will beeline for the sugar high), it is a great way to add fun to the event. You can even color code and customize candy to match your wedding palette! [Photo Credit: Red Ribbon Studio] A candy bar

Signature Cocktails

Creative signature cocktails. Who doesn’t want to hold something sparkly and pink? Or muddled and green? When you and your fiancee pick out your signature cocktail (which you must have), there are tons of creative options so have fun with this! Need inspiration? Check out great choices by city! Guests can’t say no to something pretty. [Photo Credit: Etsy] Creative signature cocktails.

Sparklers for Guests

Sparklers for your departure. Want to make a grand exit with your new hubby? Do it amidst the glowing lights of sparklers held by your favorite people. Your guests will love playing with them and you’ll feel like a queen among the sparkles! [Photo Credit: Red Ribbon Studio] Sparklers for your departure.

Glow sticks for the after party. Want to get everyone in the mood for the after party? Easy. Hand out glow sticks! They are toys for adults and once the lights go down, nothing says dance party quite like a neon glow stick. Plus, the streaks of green, pink, and yellow lights make for awesome photos. The after-party is the acceptable place to turn the wedding into a semi-rave. [Photo Credit: Shutterstock] Glow sticks for the after party.

Food Truck

Food trucks outside the venue. Instead of handing out post-party snacks on trays, why not have food trucks waiting outside as your guests leave? After all that dancing, talking, and drinking, the munchies usually follow so what better way to send guests home satiated? Think tacos, burgers or even ice cream. Style Guide: How to Choose the Best Wedding Dress Silhouette for Your Body Type

27 Oct 2016 Posted by trubridal in Wedding Dresses

There are so many dresses and so many styles. You might start to feel overwhelmed seeing all those gowns because you don’t know where to start. Don’t worry; most brides feel this way, which is why dress shopping, while the most exciting and emotional part of the preparation, is also the most dreaded task on the checklist.

Before you start your search, one thing to understand is that we all come in different sizes and shapes so what looks good on your best friend might not be the best style for you. Knowing what kind of silhouettes are most flattering for your body type will make this process a lot easier. A good rule of thumb is to accentuate your favorite body part whether it’s your beautiful décolleté, small waist or your womanly curves. Also, keep in mind: this source is an excellent guideline, but it’s just that—go with the dress that you love and feel most confident and beautiful in! After all, you will be the one walking down the aisle in this dress.

The different body types:

  • Straight: long and lean, little to no curves
  • Pear: narrow shoulders, small chest, small waist, curvy hips
  • Hourglass: curvy in all the right places (bust and hips), small waist
  • Circle: narrow shoulders, slender legs, wide around the stomach
  • Inverted Triangle: Broad shoulders, chesty, small waist, no hips

The different dress silhouettes:

  • Ball gown: princess style that poofs out from waist down. Perfect for:Pear/Circle body type – this style hides the stomach and hips, while accentuating neckline.

Wedding Dress: Vera Wang; Photo: Sarah Kate Photography

  • A-line: similar to ball gown but skirt is more flared than poofy. Perfect for:Straight/Pear/Hourglass/Circle/Inverted Triangle body type – this style is flattering on most brides.

Wedding Dress: Abed Mahfouz

  • Sheath: skims the body and falls straight down to the ground. Perfect for:Straight – this style is best on slim and tall brides.

Wedding Dress: Rosa Clara

  • Trumpet: hugs the body and flares out above the knee, creating a trumpet silhouette. Perfect for: Straight/Hourglass/Inverted Triangle – this style will hug the body and accentuate the hips.

Wedding Dress: Stella York

  • Mermaid: hugs the body and flares out below the knee, creating a mermaid silhouette. Perfect for: Hourglass – this style will flatter the curvy brides features.

Wedding Dresses: Winnie Couture

  • Empire waist: high waisted; waist line sits right below bust. Perfect for:Circle/Pear/Petite – this style will elongate the body and draw the attention up.

Wedding Dress: Pronovia

With these tips, I hope you will use it as a reference while shopping for your perfect dress but remember that it is only a guideline. Some additional tips that’ll enhance your experience is to go with your makeup and hair done. It doesn’t have to be professionally done, but it’ll help you imagine what you’ll look like on the big day. And remember to have fun! Enjoy these special moments – good luck!

Wedding-Planning Jobs for the Mother of the Groom

27 Oct 2016 Posted by trubridal in Wedding News

Wedding-Planning Jobs for the Mother of the GroomThough her role is secondary to the bride’s mom, the mother of the groom can still make a solid contribution to your wedding prep to take some stress off you. (Plus, getting her involved is a solid way to get your relationship with your future mother in law off to a good start!)

Figure out the vendor tips.
Though tips aren’t mandatory, they are customary; they’re also the way to acknowledge anyone who went above and beyond what was expected. If you’re not much of a numbers person, ask his mom to do the math. (Consult our tipping chart to find out how much to give to who.)

Stock the getting-ready room.
She can put her motherly instinct to good use by making sure there’s plenty of drinks and snacks on hand. This is so that the bride and her girls don’t pass out from hunger or dehydration as they’re getting hair and makeup done and getting dressed, which will take hours. No need for heavy, sleep-inducing foods — better choices are fresh fruit, vegetables and dip, and light sandwiches.

Put the wedding-day emergency bag together.
Aspirin, tampons, needle and thread — these are just a few of the crucial items she’ll need to gather. The bag could be customized so it’s based on the wedding’s location or time of day.

Assembling the favors.
From bedazzling the gift tags to tying bags with ribbon, the favors can be labor-intensive. The MOG’s help will be especially needed if the Bridesmaids, traditionally the favor wranglers, can’t help out. If you’re handling the work too, it’ll give you time to chat one-on-one.

Picking up out-of-towners.
If many guests will be flying in for the wedding, several drivers will be needed at different times and days to fetch them. So if she’s willing and able, ask her to put on her chauffeur cap, fill the gas tank and head to the airport. There’s a wedding on the way!
